Hi, I’m Dave.  I’m a writer and a runner and I’ve written this book about ultrarunning.  I’m no elite runner, but I care enough about the sport to get it right.  And I hope the human story to it will be engaging even if you never run a step.

I live in northwest Ohio with my beautiful wife and two brilliant children and one generally adequate cat.  It’s so flat around here, I know runners who hit the highway overpass for their hill training, and it’s entirely possible to have tropical heat and humidity and windstorms and ice and deep snow all within the same week.

I know the trails of our local nature preserve probably better than anybody, though, when they’re flooded or swarming with blackflies or completely frozen over (rarely in the same week), and get out to chase the deer around as often as I can.  It is my ultimate and abiding ambition to hit one of these deer with a snowball.
